Checkatrade

Get in the Game

Bespoke illustrations for Checkatrade's Get In The Game campaign including a microsite and interactive game for young audiences.

The mission

We were approached by award-winning agency No Brainer, and asked to create a set of characters for a huge campaign run by Checkatrade, titled Get In The Game.

The aim of this campaign was to spike interest around applying for apprenticeships for 16 - 20 year olds within the trade sector. This campaign would be inspired by the gaming community and delivered as such with inspiring gaming avatars.

The creation

Using Adobe Illustrator, we sketched out concepts for three characters including an electrician, plumber and carpenter. We followed typical gaming character design styles seen in popular games including Fortnite and gave them all a 3D look and feel.

We also made sure to keep each character on brand for Checkatrade and adhered to inclusivity factors when designing each person.

The results

Once all stakeholders were happy with the finished designs we delivered six character illustrations along with numerous supporting assets. These were used to create a microsite for Checkatrade where users could select a character and evaluate the strengths of each.

The website also allowed users to play a game as their chosen character and discover more about their chosen trade.

Buckley Creative have been an absolute pleasure to work with, helping us to shape some really creative brand concepts and deliver a very high standard of work. They've worked with us in a very collaborative way, which worked really well for us and we really appreciate all the effort and hard work Sam's put into our designs. A brilliant designer that can be relied upon to deliver excellent work!
